POP star Duffy yesterday joined royalty, actors television presenters and DJs at a charity day in the City of London.

The BGC Partners seventh Annual Charity Trading Day, at Churchill Place in Canary Wharf, London, raised millions of pounds for 29 UK charities.

Prince Harry became a record breaker on the day when he carried out the largest foreign currency trade ever – worth £15.5bn.

He took to the telephone to complete the deal between Barclays London and a European counter-party based on projected currency values between September 13 and 14.

Also taking part in the day were Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, the Cheeky Girls, television presenter Tess Daly, DJs Chris Evans, Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, actor Ray Winstone, London mayor Boris Johnson and Sir Terry Wogan.

Duffy and the others were at the Canary Wharf offices of BGC Partners on behalf of Sentebale, the charity Prince Harry helped to found in order to support vulnerable children and orphans in the southern African country of Lesotho.

Foreign exchange broker Robert Sully described his performance as “brilliant”.

Prince Harry praised the BGC staff during a pause in the trading, and said: “It’s great to see everybody making an effort on Monday morning.”

The annual fundraising day was started in memory of the 658 staff who worked for the firm’s sister company, investment bank Cantor Fitzgerald, who died in the 9/11 terror attacks Cantor Fitzgerald lost more people than any other organisation caught up in the atrocity 10 years ago.
