20 Jul: Duffy To Sing Theme For New Simon Pegg Film

Duffy is apparently singing the them tune to another movie and rumours have intensified about the new Bond Theme too... The new movie theme tune will apparently be released as a single in October.

The below article is from Walesonline.co.uk:

Pop sensation Duffy tipped for next Bond theme

IT’S not a duff bet you know – Wales’ hottest pop star looks set to follow Shirley Bassey and Tom Jones as the voice behind a James Bond theme tune.

Rumours have been intensifying over the last few days that Duffy will make her mark on 007’s next instalment, Quantum of Solace.

The film is due for release on October 31.

If she does land the definitive number, it will mean her voice features on two big films due for release that month. According to reports, Duffy has already won over producers of the Simon Pegg film How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, and been chosen to sing the theme tune.

Duffy’s career has exploded this year and she already boasts 2008’s biggest selling single Mercy, with album Rockferry equalling the feat.

Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson were favourites to land the prestigious Bond song, but concerns about Winehouse’s erratic behaviour have opened the door for Duffy.

Shirley Bassey is currently the queen of the Ian Fleming ballads with three title tracks to her name: Goldfinger in 1964, followed by Diamonds are Forever, 1971, and lastly, Moonraker, in 1979.

Tom Jones has also helped tighten the Welsh grip on the Bond theme with his rendition of Thunderball in 1965.

Duffy, 24, has hinted she has submitted a song to be considered as the theme, responding to the question of her involvement: “Well, a lady never exposes her secrets.”

That hint, and slivers of gossip slipping out from Pinewood Studios, where Quantum of Solace is being filmed, suggest the Welsh stamp will once again make its mark on a franchise showing no signs of abating. Some sources have even gone so far as to describe Duffy as a “shoo-in” for the coveted role after a sudden splurge of bets were placed on the Gwynedd-born songstress.

Nick Weinberg, of Ladbrokes, told Wales on Sunday: “In the space of 48 hours we saw some big bets which were unusual for this kind of stake. That usually means somebody knows something we don’t, which, as a bookmaker, worries us.

“We suspended betting with Duffy at even money, from initially being priced at 5/1. We’ll have a look at the situation again in a couple of weeks.”

As for Duffy possibly becoming the youngest ever singer to grace the pantheon of James Bond title tracks, she will miss out, regardless. That tag belongs to Sheena Easton, a precocious 22 years old when she commanded the Bill Conti score of For Your Eyes Only in 1981.

These stories have pervaded the web.
