30 Jul: Jack White and Alicia Keys for Bond theme

Looks like those rumours that Duffy was a "cert" for the Bond theme were out of line then... According to this article anyway.

Jack White and Alicia Keys for Bond theme

Jack White and Alicia Keys are set to go down in history as the first duet to record the James Bond theme.

Following rumours that Duffy was a 'dead cert' to sing the track, the pair will reportedly record the theme to 'Quantum Of Solace', entitled 'Another Way To Die'.

According to Billboard.com, White, frontman in both The White Stripes and The Raconteurs, wrote and produced the song, and will also play drums.

Earlier this year, Amy Winehouse and Mark Ronson entered the studio to work on the theme, but the effort proved fruitless.

'Quantum Of Solace' will once again see Daniel Craig in the lead role, as he did in 2006's 'Casino Royale'.

The movie will come out November 7 in the US. The soundtrack to 'Quantum Of Solace' on October 28.

OK, Jack White is a clever bloke, but Alicia Keys?

I think we are fairly sure in assuming that Alicia Keys is not a clever bloke, Old Git.

Alicia Keys is alright actually oldgit. She writes her own stuff and although her latest album isn't my favourite her first 2 albums are very listenable and very retro soul style (yet with a modern hip hop twist which is well-known now but not so much when she got her first album out). She writes alot of good stuff, is a fab pianist and she contributed in a major way to what it think is the best track on what I think is Aguilera's best album ("Stripped").

Hi danyelle, I do know her stuff and have formed my own opinion over the years. Afraid she doesn't do it for me in any way at all though. Never liked a single song of hers. To me personally, it's like the musical equivelent of over acting. Yes she's won lots of awards and I know she's very big in the US, but she sounds very American for a British film. Obviously Shirley Bassey's reputation as the greatest Bond singer is safe for another film.

It's just as well Duffy didn't get this job ... the jealousy/hate from certain quarters would have been unbearable

Hi Oldgit - I was simply responding to your comment "but Alicia Keys" which might have implied that she wasn't "clever". I think she is very talented.... but I wouldn't have chosen her to sing for a British Bond Theme! I would have picked Duffy because the greatest, most memorable Bond theme songs were the big sweeping Bassey ones. Hence you can see why they maybe wanted Amy Winehouse because her style of music (e.g. Me & Mr Jones) is classic in that respect, whatever one thinks of her personal life.
