23 Apr: WARWICK AVENUE VIDEO PREMIERES

I can't believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have just watched the video premiere of Warwick Avenue at 5 past midnight just now....

All the stuff we saw of the video before, all the balloons, red socks, walking down the road in Merrick Square in London..... all of it has gone and is not in the video at all!!!!!!!!!! Not even a hint!

The ENTIRE video is a close up on Duffy's face as she sings along to Warwick Avenue and cries - looks like she's in the back of a cab coming abck from the Warwick Avenue tube station. Her mascara runs and that is it..... the entire video.

I couldn't believe it. I was gobsmacked. I was expecting a class video like the photos we saw of glittery balloons and Duffy walking around in the grandma coat and red socks but NONE of it was in whatsoever!

I'm amazed.

And for those of you who didn't see all the photos and video of Duffy filming for the Warwick Avenue video then check it here:

It's a bit too "Sinead O'Connor" for me... still a fab song though!

This is a great video. Those tears look real to me. If not, she has a career in acting ahead of her, too!
Texas Tom.
P.S. Duffy is on the cover of Pollstar Magazine, too.

Hey Texas Tom do you have the mag? Can you take a pic of the cover and the article in the mag for me?

A chill to the bones. So real.

As for the balloons:
My conspiracy theory thingy seems to have come to light finally... at some point at least. I suspect those shots were made for either another N-American release... or for the next single.

Well if you look closely on the video I think Duffy is wearing the grandma coat and T shirt underneath that she was wearing for those photos.....

I think it's pretty obvious what happened with this video. The car scene was meant to be just a small part of the video - to do that they would shoot her singing the whole song and then use a couple of seconds.

Of course Duffy broke down a lttle bit and the director decided to dump his original idea and just run with the car shots.

Now I find that a very bold thing to do and I think it works - a bit of reality in the artificial world of pop video if you like.

Of course all the clever sods who love to knock Duffy are going to come out with their jibes but really who cares about them, they're nothing.

I really love Duffy's music and I really think she does look good in the video... but the fact the video is all the same and quite cliched just doesn't do it for me. It is the loser scene at the end of The Apprentice (when they are moanibg in the cab home) meets Sinead O'Connor.... and that is just my opinion.
Not that I want to knock her, cos I don't. I wouldn't do this blog if I had anything against her.... I just think the director could have come up with something better.
And GRumps I agree with you that that is what probably happened (that the car scene was prob just a part of it and then they decided to use all of it once they saw Duffy's genuine emotion).

Danyelle - I know you would never knock Duffy, after all your blog is THE best Duffy resource on the web by far and that includes the official site.

Thanks very much Grumps..... :-)

The video is a classic example of that old, very true maxim: Less is more.

It is brilliant.

The Balloons might be for Distant Dreamer ;-)

From Buzzjack.com:

9. Duffy – Mercy (8)

The year’s biggest selling single, Duffy refuses to leave the UK top ten after three months and has now sold close to (now over) 400,000 copies (in the UK alone). Duffy’s debut album Rockferry also remains top five this week having sold well over half a million (UK) copies so far.

The next single from the Welsh singer is the emotional ballad Warwick Avenue. The video debuted this week and has propelled the single into the top 75, meaning that it is almost certain to join Mercy inside the top forty next week - well ahead of its physical release on May 26th.

WHOOPEE!

I think what happened with the original video was not enough dancers turned up for the audition, as i was ment to be one of them but thought there would be hundreds and i didnt feel confident enough. So they basically scrapped it...The dancers where ment to be tap/jazz dancers, but obviously there wasnt enough! i regret not going now :( now i no i cud have had a chance after all! lol...
